Our
goal is to come along side those who have the vision for ministry
and help them with resources, expertise and support. We become an
extension of local Evangelical Covenant churches and work to enable
them to offer programs and services that benefit their communities.
An
example in Gary, Indiana
Gary
was struggling. The population was shrinking, community members
were disenfranchised, once-thriving school buildings were vacant.
City officials were desperate to bolster hope within the community
and were willing to take the steps necessary to bring life back
to the deteriorating city.
The
Church of Gary Covenant Church helped provide a solution. Working
with the Outreach Ministries of Covenant Ministries of Benevolence,
the church began to breathe life back
into the community.
A
once-vacant school building was refurbished to house an after-school
program, a child care program, an intervention program for suspended
students and a job training program. The building also became headquarters
for the Marshall Plan for Gary, an economic development initiative
of the church that counsels small businesses and assists them in
becoming integral parts of the community.
A
safe haven for victims
In another example of CMB's Outreach Ministries, WellSpring provides
a support system for victims of domestic violence. In an area where
police receive more than 2,000 domestic violence calls a month,
WellSpring provides a safe haven for victims in Chicago's Englewood
neighborhood.
WellSpring
is proactive in its community outreach. Because victims are often
afraid to seek help, the ministry works diligently to acquaint the
community with its services.
A
myriad of opportunities
Across the country, Evangelical Covenant churches are successfully
planting ministries by working with their local conference and CMB.
Visions are focused, expertise is shared, and as a result, after-school
programs, prison outreach ministries, and youth music academies
are thriving.
