Walking
the path to independence
In a relatively
new ministry of the church, a ministry originally developed through
Covenant Women Ministries, Covenant Enabling Residences works with
adults with developmental disabilities to ensure they receive the
support, training and encouragement they need to become independent
members of the community.
Covenant Enabling
Residences provide around-the-clock care to residents in a warm,
Christian environment. Staff members nurture residents' dreams and
hopes as they teach the skills and self-confidence needed to become
economically and physically independent.
Bjorklund
House
Opened
in 1994, Bjorklund House is home to 16 adults with developmental
disabilities. A 24-hour staff encourages residents to achieve their
maximum level of independence in the group setting. From doing their
laundry and helping with meals, to grocery shopping, using public
transportation or holding a job in the community, residents experience
the
satisfaction
of daily strides in their growth toward independence.
Independence
Place
Just
two blocks from Bjorklund House, Independence Place offers an even
higher level of independence to its eight residents.
Residents'
apartments are complete with their own bathroom and kitchen. Staff
members are on site 24 hours a day to offer support and encouragement
as residents walk the path to self-sufficiency. All residents are
employed in the local community or participate in a day
program.
